Favorite E3 video game reveals
Greetings everyone! Karthas here, as many of you are aware E3 took place this past weekend unveiling a multitude of exciting games and hardware for the masses. I thought it would be fun to talk about my favorite E3 video game reveals and sharing my thoughts on them. This list is in no particular order and it certainly doesn’t contain everything from E3, so be sure to let me know what you are looking forward to in the comments section below!
A Way Out
When I first heard about this “prison break game” I thought it was based on the TV show *cringe* but thankfully it is not. The interesting thing about this game is that it was made to be played in local coop, but you can still play online coop. I’m really glad to see a new game that features local coop, it seems to be disappearing in new games, which is a shame.
The driving force behind this game are the same creators of Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, which I have not played but heard really good things about! The players will control one of two characters, Vincent and Leo as they work together to overcome challenges. The players act completely independent of each other, so while one may be in a cut scene, the other is free to act. This game will be a lot of fun with a friend!
I’m really excited for this game. First of all the graphics looked absolutely gorgeous! I only hope it looks that way at release. The gameplay featured beautiful scenes of a world overgrown with foliage and teeming with strange wildlife. Some have noted that it looks like a combination of Destiny and Horizon Zero Dawn set on Avatar’s Pandora. Seeing as how all three of those things are pretty awesome, I’d say were in good shape.
From the small amount of details in the trailer, you are a freelancer who lives in a great walled city. Outside the walls are wild and full of danger, not many leave the safety of the walls. You have at your disposal mech suits called Javelins that you jump into whenever you head outside the walls. These Javelins allow you to fly, dive underwater, and enhance your strength and endurance. They’re also equipped with an array of weaponry to protect you in the wilds. The 2 Javelins we saw in the reveal were the Ranger, an all purpose mech, and the Colossus, a tanky mech. You’ll be able to upgrade and customize your Javelins to fit your play-style.
The game definitely feels like it is meant to be a competitor to Destiny, and the setting seems very similar. It looks like cooperative play will be a big part of this game, and you’ll be able to explore the wilds outside of the walls to discover weapons, and upgrades for your Javelins. Overall I’m really looking forward to more information on this game.
Assassin’s Creed Origins
I’ve not played many of the Assassin’s Creed games (just 1 & 2), but this one looks interesting. The new combat looks like a welcome change for the series. Not to mention it’s set in Egypt, come on, that’s going to be cool! Assassin’s Creed Origins has incorporated some RPG elements into the game including gear, weapons, and what looked like different horses. In addition to your typical assassin goodies you have an eagle that can scout out the area for you helping to find your target as well as get a grasp of the lay of the land.
Shadow of War
If you didn’t know, I am a huge Lord of the Rings fan. I’ve bought just about every LotR game that has been released, but unfortunately none of them have been stellar. That is until Shadow of Mordor. Even though the story line pretty much dumps all over Tolkien’s mythology, I was happy to play a good game set in Middle Earth! Shadow of War looks like it will be dumping all over the mythology even more (fighting a Balrog! Give me a break!), but the game looks fun.
Shadow Of War is the sequel to Shadow of Mordor. The gameplay and fighting in Shadow of Mordor wasn’t anything new, but the Nemesis System was fantastic. If you are not familiar with the Nemesis System it was a clever way to keep the player engaged. To summarize, if a little grunt Orc kills you, he rises in the ranks, gets a name, and works to become stronger. They even remember fighting you when you encounter them again! Its a really cool way to present your enemies and I’m looking forward to seeing how they’ve expanded it in Shadow of War.
Gameplay Looks Great!
Based on the gameplay trailer they showed, this game looks like it will be absolutely amazing. From laying siege to enemy fortresses to building relationships with your war chiefs, Shadow of War looks to be an absolutely amazing game. Watch the gameplay below, seriously watch it. It feels like everything a video game should be, I’m just hoping they follow through! If you are looking for some more info on it check out this article where Donoran goes more in depth with the game.
State of Decay 2
I never got around to playing State of Decay 1, but a friend did and said it was a blast! Personally I love games that focus on team work and State of Decay 2 fits the bill. The premise is simple, zombies are everywhere and you need to kill them. But State of Decay 2 goes a bit deeper than that. You need to survive, gather supplies, find shelter, and most importantly find allies. This game looks like it will be a lot of fun with friends!
Similar to LotR games, I love Star Wars game! Unfortunately the first Battlefront game was lacking. They did an amazing job capturing the Star Wars feel but the game was very very shallow. Hopefully they have heard the community and made the changes, which it sounds like they have. They’re including a single player campaign and bots!
Battlefront II will be including some interesting changes like classes that offer different benefits from buffing allies to being a bit more tanky. Also they’ve removed the pickups and now have battle points which are used to purchase vehicles, heroes, etc. Overall looking forward to this!
Crackdown 2 was one of those hidden gems that I happen to find. I picked it up one day while browsing some games, only to find out how much fun it was. I convinced some friends to get it and we had a blast causing all sorts of mayhem and destruction. Sure it wasn’t the greatest game but we had a loads of fun playing.
Anyways Crackdown 3 hopes to reinvigorate the franchise by asking the question, what happens when you give your players super human strength, giant explosions, and a fully destructible city? Well a lot of fun, or at least that is what I’ve heard. You’ll work to take out crime bosses in the city as a Super-Powered Agent. Overall it looks like it’ll be a lot of fun.
The games I listed here are certainly not everything that was revealed at E3. These are just the games that interested me, and I’m sure I left some out. So what was your favorite reveal at E3? Leave your thoughts below in the comments section! Thanks for stopping by!
