Hello and welcome back to The Goblin Gazette! Karthas here and as many of you are aware the trailer for Thor: Ragnarok was released much to the glee of many Marvel fans. The trailer is packed with action and some light-hearted comedy and looks to be a lot of fun! The movie is set to hit theaters November 3rd in the US. Alright, let’s talk about the trailer!
So let me start by saying, I am not familiar with the Thor comics at all. Comics are one of those things that I’d love to get into, I’ve just never had the time to. I know some great people on Twitter who are comic book fanatics who would love to answer your questions. So if you have any, leave them in the comments below! So for those who don’t know, the basic plot of Thor: Ragnarok is as follows, Thor’s hammer Mjolnir, is destroyed by Hela, the Goddess of Death. He then ends up as a Gladiator on a planet called Sakaar, where he will have to win a duel against none other than the Hulk. Meanwhile Hela is razing Asgard in an attempt to bring about Ragnarok, the end of Asgardian civilization.
Okay, so with that out of the way, let’s talk about the trailer. First of all, I’m loving this light-hearted approach they’re taking with Led Zeppelin rocking in the background, the stereotypical 90s sitcom intro with Thor talking how he ended up in his current predicament, and that amazing reaction when Thor realizes he has to fight the Hulk. The trailer just oozes with fun, and I can honestly say, I’m a bit giddy after watching it!
The film promises to be action packed with some awesome sequences featuring Asgard in flames, Hela taking out Asgardian warriors, ships, guns, Loki flipping some knives, and that match up between Thor and the Hulk. Also the color pallet they’ve been going with reminded me of Suicide Squad, but now I am understanding why they went with it. It seems like the people of Sakaar dress in those neon colors.
The cast in quite the lineup, throwing Cate Blanchett in the mix as the main villain of the film, Hela. But let me say, Cate looks fantastic as Hela, I didn’t even know it was her at first! It almost as if she isn’t aging…like an elf… But she is really shaping up to be a star villain for a series that has been struggling with a compelling villain since Loki.
The few shots we get of her tease her power, mystique, and dark demeanor. Particularly when she shatters Mjolnir with one hand! I’m really hoping they don’t kill her off, and I highly doubt it, as there is a possibility she will appear in Infinity War.
Jeff Goldblum seems to be joining the mix as the Grandmaster of the gladiatorial ring on Sakaar. He seems to have befriended Loki who is there to enjoy the show. We also are getting Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Idris Elba will be returning as Heimdall, and it looks like Benedict Cumberbatch will be making an appearance as Doctor Strange!
Overall I’m really looking forward to this movie, as I’ve said, it looks to be a lot of fun and full of action. It has a stellar cast lineup with some new comers and some returning favorites. So be sure to catch Thor: Ragnarok on theaters on November 3rd! You can find the trailer below if you haven’t seen it yet. As always, thank you for reading!
